43 An active strategy for information sharing to many students Informal discussions enhanced as students walk around in small groups Can act as an icebreaker as students need to interact with each other For students, it's a chance to share thoughts in a more intimate, supportive setting rather than in front of a large and anonymous class A solution for empowering the students to take responsibility for their own learning Encourages movement around classroom as groups move from "station" to "station", interrupting the lethargy that sometimes results from being seated for long periods Encourages the development of ideas for solving complex problems in a creative way Encourages the sharing of results from group work or project work in an active way The purpose of the gallery walk should be clearly explained The number of stations should be sufficient to go through The size of the student groups should not be too large The size of the venue/classroom should be ideal The circular movement of student groups should be effectively managed Gallery walk for knowledge sharing Sometimes, gallery walks are also a suitable strategy for sharing results from group work or experiences from different activities. In this case, the flip charts (or other presentation modes such as PowerPoints) are prepared before students come to class. One student in the group will stay at the station of the group and present the information to the groups rotating. If there are many stations, it is recommendable that there is also a rotation of the students presenting. This way, all students will receive most of the insights prepared by the other groups. Advantageous reasons to consider this method: Things to take into consideration when implementing the gallery walk: 4.2.2. Flipped Learning / Classroom Flipped learning is a pedagogical approach where the traditional classroom-based learning is turned upside down. Within this approach, the learning material is introduced to students before class or online contact in order to let the classroom or online time be devoted to activities based on the delivered material to deepen the understanding of the topic in question. The emphasis of activities is on peer-to-peer discussions and problem-solving to create knowledge together (Acer for education, 2023).
