Peer evaluation Some testimonials from: peers, tutors, external examiners (reports for example), collaborators on projects (including industry collaborators), a mentor and/or thank you notes (e-mail or any other kind of communication platform) from afore mentioned people (make links to teaching apparent) One can even consider sharing invites to present guest lecturing that shows that other (in or at another university acknowledge one’s expertise) Alternatively one may consider sharing invites or documents requesting you to perform external moderation on undergraduate level and/or examination of postgraduate work Invites to reviewing for other academic panels may also be positioned as recognition of one’s expertise, but the direct or indirect link to Teaching needs to be explained or illustrated Student evaluation At least 2 Student evaluations (recent and preferably done in different semesters) Testimonials from students, alumni or mails, or any other messages (for example screen shots of comments in a social media group or on Blackboard where students reflect or thank the lecturer) Ongoing professional development (including Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) Any courses for self-development and or growth, workshops, teaching enhancement or even attendance of session that enrich teaching, personal and career growth. Make links direct or indirect to teaching. Platforms such as leadership or mentorship (mentoring and some courses will be applicable) Formal courses on supervision or any other type of teaching course or at least a course to enhance teaching skill or self-awareness (make links to teaching by contextualizing with narrative) Any strategies such as co-supervision to build capacity with an established supervisor Any certification relevant to ongoing development in teaching in a direct or indirect way Special recognition of teaching expertise* Any prizes or funding gained for innovative teaching as this is competitive and shows innovation such as VC awards A nomination for a VC or other prestige award is worth noting as well Platforms such as leadership or mentorship (explain link to teaching) Selection or acknowledgment of affiliation to groups such as Women in Leadership, Women in Research, Top 20 researcher on dean’s list (explain link to teaching) Affiliation to prestige groups or panels that directly or indirectly link or enrich teaching (illustrate or explain links) Best paper awards or presentations that might link to teaching indirectly as it links to expertise or post-grad student work Visiting professorship or invite of another institution (often goes with teaching) Keynote speaker at a conference (link to teaching in a direct or indirect way) etc. *Note this section and the section on “recognition by others” can be balanced or even combined in a portfolio to have enough evidence to cover both should there be no special recognition for example. In the case of a prestige award, it is wise to make a separate section to emphasise the recognition. 66
